Affiliate Disclosure

This page explains how the affiliate links on My Mini Linguist work, and why.

The short version

Some of the books, toys and brands I link to on this site are part of affiliate programmes. If you click one of those links and buy something, I may receive a small commission — at extra cost to you. I only ever recommend products I'd buy (or have bought) for our family.

Where my links go

Books — almost always Bookshop.org UK. Bookshop.org pays a 10% commission to small affiliates and shares profits with independent UK bookshops. Amazon's children's-book commission is 4.5%. The values alignment matters more to me than the commission, but the commission helps too.

Toys, art supplies, sensory equipment — independent retailers wherever possible: Conscious Craft, Babipur, Myriad Natural Toys, the Yoto referral programme, occasionally Etsy via the AWIN affiliate network. These typically pay between 5% and 10%.

Amazon — only when a product genuinely isn't available elsewhere. Amazon UK Associates pays 3% on toys and 4.5% on books. I default to Amazon for breadth of catalogue, not for revenue. For Italian books that are not readily available on Amazon UK, I may link to Amazon IT, and I will also try to find local bookshops in Italy that stock the books I link. And if you know of one, please let me know!

No paid product placements. I do not accept payment from brands to feature their products in posts. Featured products are featured because I'd genuinely buy them. If that ever changes, this page will say so first.

What this means in practice

For each post that contains affiliate links, you'll see a short note near the top or bottom indicating that some links earn a commission. Within the post, links go directly to the retailer — no cloaking, no shorteners. (Amazon, Pinterest and FTC guidance all require visible direct affiliate links, and I think it's the right thing to do anyway.)

If you'd rather not use my affiliate links, you can always search for the product directly on the retailer's website. The recommendation stands either way.

Why I do this

Writing this site takes time. Affiliate revenue helps cover the hosting, the domain, and the cost of buying and reviewing more books and toys to feature here. It also lets me recommend products because they're good, not because someone has paid me to recommend them.

If you appreciate what's here and want to support the site directly, the most useful things you can do are: subscribe to the Sowing Tales Substack, follow @SowingTales on Pinterest, and share posts you find useful with other parents.

Compliance

This site complies with:

  • The FTC's affiliate marketing guidelines (USA, where many readers are based)
  • The UK Advertising Standards Authority's CAP Code (where the site is operated from)
  • The Amazon Associates Operating Agreement for the UK and US programmes

Affiliate disclosures appear on every relevant post, in the bio for the linked Pinterest account (@SowingTales), and on this dedicated page.
